PARIS -- Russian ultranationalist Vladimir Zhirinovsky has committed his ideas for the future shape of Europe to paper -- redrawing a road map to wipe out Austria,Slovenia, the Baltic states, the Czech Republic and Bosnia.
The French newspaper Le Monde on Friday carried a copy of the map, obtained from Rolf Gauffin, a Swedish ex-diplomat who asked Zhirinovsky for his views on Europe's future borders.
The main changes Zhirinovsky made to the European map included:
?A sharply reduced Poland. Germany would get Gdansk and Silesia province, and Russia some eastern territory. Poland would be given Ukraine's Lvov district in compensation.
?Russia would take Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia, except for a small area around the Estonian capital Tallinn.
?Germany would control Austria and the Czech Republic, two areas annexed by Adolf Hitler in the late 1930s.
?The Russian Baltic sea enclave of Kaliningrad, formerly Koenigsberg, would revert to Germany.
?Bosnia would disappear with Serbs and Croats dividing former Yugoslavia. Zhirinovsky added the words "U.N. out" in English on the map.
?Hungary would take Transylvania from a shrunken Romania.
?A greater Bulgaria would take chunks of Greece and Romania, including Bucharest, and areas of Turkey.
