Footage of a fatal car crash involving a former head of traffic police from Russia’s Siberian region of Kuzbass was posted online Monday.
The? video footage? shows Yury Movshin driving his Toyota Land Cruiser at high speed into a Toyota Permio. Two of the four passengers inside the Permio were killed instantly, while two more died in hospital over the weekend. The driver of the Permio, whose license was reportedly revoked last year, was hospitalized, local news outlet sibdepo.ru reported.
Eyewitnesses described Movshin calling his driver and lawyer immediately after the incident on April 23. Police have reported that he was sober at the time of the accident.
The former officer has a record of deadly car accidents and was involved in another fatal crash in 2011 while serving as the head of the Kuzbass traffic police, news website dp.ru reported. No criminal case was opened at the time of the incident, although Movshin was dismissed from his post one year later.
Regional governor Aman Tuleev will now be supervising a special commission investigating the crash, the Kommersant newspaper reported. If found guilty, Movshin could face a prison sentence of up to seven years.
