Venables Enters Fray

England's new coach, Terry Venables, is ready to break with tradition and play top European club sides such as AC Milan and Barcelona if he cannot find countries willing to provide opposition.

With other teams facing a crowded schedule of qualifying matches for the 1996 European championship, host England automatically qualifies. Venables said: "Playing club sides is not ideal, it's not been done. I am looking for international opposition and doing everything I can.

"But if I have difficulties there I can't see it doing us any harm to play top club sides. In many respects they may be better than some international sides."
