DUSHANBE, Tajikistan — Al-Qaida aims to infiltrate Central Asia to train militants and turn the region into a zone of unrest, a U.S. envoy said Saturday.
"I think the real threat in this region is less from the Taliban but from al-Qaida, which trains international terrorists," U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke said on a visit to Tajikistan.
"This is an issue of common concern to the United States and to all the countries of this region. And by all the countries, I definitely include Pakistan and China and India," he said.
