Shootout in Prague

PRAGUE () -- An Afghan war veteran shot and injured a policeman at Prague airport and hijacked a taxi before being captured, police in the Czech Republic said Monday.


Police arrested Ukrainian Oleg Zakharov, a former Soviet army officer, early Sunday morning more than four hours after the shooting incident, Commander Antonin Fedorek told a news conference. About 100 police helped by a helicopter and dogs were involved in the manhunt.


Zakharov, who was born in 1959, was charged with attempted murder, hostage-taking and other offenses, but police said they did not have a motive for the alleged crimes.
