A Russian woman was forced to give birth in a car park after she was turned away from a local hospital, the Chelyabinsk.ru news agency reported.

Olga Podryadovaya, 30, was experiencing contractions when she arrived Tuesday at Chelyabinsk's Maternity Hospital No. 5 with her husband Maxim, according to the report.

But when her husband tried to enter the hospital he was stopped by a security guard, during which time Podryadovaya had already started to give birth in the car park, the report said.

The father-to-be resorted to calling an ambulance for his wife, but by the time it arrived she had already given birth. Both mother and baby have since been admitted to the maternity hospital, where they are in a stable condition, the father was quoted as saying.

Local prosecutors are looking into the incident, Chelyabinsk.ru reported.
