Nemtsov Defeats Baturina's Defamation Suit

In a new sign of changing winds in the capital, a Moscow court on Wednesday threw out a defamation lawsuit by former Mayor Yury Luzhkov’s billionaire wife, Yelena Baturina, against her critic Boris Nemtsov, Interfax reported.

The Moscow District Federal Arbitration Court overturned a July ruling that ordered Nemtsov to retract two of five disputed passages in a 2009 booklet critical of Luzhkov and to pay 60,000 rubles ($1,900) in damages.

Representatives of Baturina, who filed the lawsuit in February, said her construction company, Inteko, would appeal Wednesday’s verdict.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly said the Moscow District Federal Arbitration Court threw out the defamation suit Thursday. It actually was rejected Wednesday.
