ST. PETERSBURG -- Authorities have filed rape charges against a man in connection with the brutal attack on an 8-year-old boy last fall, Interfax reported.
The suspect was also accused Tuesday of other capital offenses, the report said.
The man comes from the Krasnodar region and committed three similar crimes in St. Petersburg last year, Yelena Tobilskaya, a deputy district prosecutor, was quoted as saying. She said he would be given a psychiatric examination.
The second-grader, disemboweled in the attack in his apartment building elevator last September, is being treated at the Pittsburgh Children's Hospital in the United States, where surgeons performed an intestinal transplant.
Doctors in St. Petersburg said they treated three boys aged from 8 to 13 for similar injuries last year.
