Low Harvest Forecast

MOSCOW ) -- Russia's grain harvest this year will be the lowest in a decade and sluggish buying by government purchasers will push up the cost of bread in many parts of the country, according to an economic analyst.

Federal and regional buyers have purchased only 7.6 million tons as of Oct. 3, compared with 23 million tons a year ago, Andrei Sizov, head of the Sovekon Analytic Center told Itar-Tass on Thursday. Sizov said grain purchasers desperately need cash and farmers are slow to sell, expecting better offers.
