TBILISI, Georgia — Georgian opposition representatives criticized a plan by authorities to dismantle a memorial to World War II victims as insulting to veterans Wednesday.
City officials in Kutaisi, where the memorial is located, and the Georgian government refused to comment on the reasons for the move.
Federation Council Speaker Sergei Mironov denounced the planned destruction as a “sacrilege."
