Investigators have opened a criminal case against head of a local brick manufacturer Kuban Kirpich (Kuban Brick) after a bear held on the plant's territory killed a security guard, the Investigative Committee's Krasnodar region office said in a statement.
The company's director is charged with manslaughter due to negligence and may face up to two years in prison if convicted.
According to investigation, in 2006 the head of Kuban Kirpich bought two brown bears, which he placed in an enclosure on the plan's territory. He authorized a 41-year-old security guard to feed the animals without instructing him about appropriate safety measures.
On Aug. 26 the security guard came too close to the enclosure and one of the bears grabbed him through the bars, badly mauling him.
The guard died on the scene from his injuries.
