Brosnan to Play Bond

LONDON -- Pierce Brosnan will be the new James Bond, producers for the Bond films said Wednesday. Brosnan, an Irish actor, is best known as the suave star of the television show "Remington Steele." In movies Brosnan, 43, has played in "The Lawnmower Man" and more recently in "Mrs. Doubtfire." In 1986, Brosnan was prominently mentioned as the next Agent 007 but missed out when NBC revived the previously canceled "Remington Steele." At that time Timothy Dalton got the Bond role, following in the footsteps of Sean Connery, George Lazenby and Roger Moore. Dalton stepped down earlier this year after two Bond films.
