Bombers Pulled Out

Russia has withdrawn four long-range bombers from Kazakhstan, completing the pull-out of its strategic air force from the former Soviet republic, a Russian air force official said Monday.

The Tupolev-95-MS bombers left their base near Semipalatinsk last week and flew to central Russia.

Earlier this year, 36 of the bomber fleet returned to Russia following an agreement between the two countries.

Russia has kept control over the bulk of the former Soviet military might, but other republics that won independence after the collapse of the superpower in 1991 have laid claim to manpower and equipment for their own armed forces.
