Abkhazia Pullout Plea

MOSCOW () -- Vladimir Shumeiko, head of the Federation Council, urged the Kremlin on Wednesday to pull Russian peacekeepers out of Georgia's breakaway region of Abkhazia after it backed Chechen rebels in conflict with Moscow, Itar-Tass said.


It quoted a letter from Shumeiko, to President Boris Yeltsin as saying Abkhazian separatists, who enjoyed Russia's implicit backing in the past, failed to appreciate Moscow's efforts
