90% for Euthanasia

LONDON () -- Nine out of 10 British old people support euthanasia, according to a magazine survey to be published Tuesday.

Neil Patrick, editor of Yours magazine which conducted the survey among 2,500 elderly readers, said: "This is a resounding vote from pensioners for the right to die with dignity when terminally ill and in pain."

More than nine in 10 surveyed thought doctors should be allowed to end the lives of terminally ill patients who want to die. Ninety percent would like a relative to ask a doctor to end their life if they were too ill to communicate.

In May, the government said Britain would maintain its ban on euthanasia to protect the sick, elderly and disabled.
