17 Palestinians Injured

RAMALLAH, West Bank -- Israeli soldiers wounded 17 Palestinian protesters Wednesday when they attacked an Israeli police station in the West Bank, a day after undercover agents shot dead two Islamic activists. It was one of the most serious outbreaks of violence since the last Israeli troops withdrew from the Palestinian self-rule areas of the Gaza Strip and West Bank region of Jericho on May 18. Israeli sources said rioters attacked the Israeli police station in Ramallah, a city of 30,000 north of Jerusalem which is not in the self-rule zone. Soldiers responded with rubber bullets and tear gas, the sources said. Ramallah is near Al-Ram, where security forces Tuesday shot and killed two members of the Hamas group as they were getting off a bus.
