Potash producer Uralkali's chief executive Vladislav Baumgertner, who is currently under house arrest in Minsk by order of Belarussian authorities, is satisfied with the conditions of his confinement, said Igor Karyagin, the head of the consular department of the Russian embassy in Minsk, on Tuesday.
Karyagin, who met with Baumgertner on Monday, said the businessman was in good physical shape and did not have any complaints about the condition of the apartment where he is confined, or his health, Interfax reported.
"No requests were expressed either," Karyagin said, adding that his meeting with Baumgertner had lasted for "20 to 25 minutes."
The consular official said that Baumgertner stays in shape by doing regular exercises. Asked whether he was allowed walks outside, Karyagin said Baumgertner had the opportunity to breathe fresh air thanks to the balcony of the apartment where he is being held.
The meeting was attended by Baumgertner's lawyer. Belarussian law enforcement officials who guard Baumgertner were not present, Karyagin said.
Baumgertner was arrested in Minsk on Aug. 26. He was accused of abusing his position and causing significant economic damage to Belarussia, as a result of terminating a join venture between the Russian company and its Belarussian partner.
