Tank Factory Starts Clothing Brand

Uralvagonzavod, the tank and railway car manufacturer, plans to launch its own line of clothing, shoes and accessories under its own brand name, Kommersant reported Monday.

The company is to start the production and sale of clothing — including T-shirts, jackets and shoes — for men, women and children to promote its brand, following in the footsteps of other major global manufacturers such as Boeing and Caterpillar, the tank maker's deputy director, Alexei Zharich, said.

Investment in the tank maker's fashion debut will total about 20 million rubles (about $600,000).

The new range, made at factories based in Russia and China, will be sold at three showrooms in Uralvagonzavod's native city of Nizhny Tagil in the Urals, as well as via its online store, uvzshop.ru.
