State-controlled national carrier Aeroflot has relinquished its rights for 17 routes from Russian cities to international destinations as the company did not use them, Interfax reported Wednesday.
Aeroflot dumped its rights for flights from Moscow to the Egyptian resort of Hurghada, Luanda in Angola, and Damascus, the Syrian capital, according to the federal aviation watchdog.
The airline also abandoned its rights for flights from St. Petersburg to Berlin, Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Kiev, Munich, Frankfurt and Odessa; from Sochi to Tashkent and Frankfurt; from Rostov-on-Don and Mineralnye Vody to Yerevan and Tashkent; and from Vladivostok to Mudanjiang and Sanya in China.
Aeroflot subsidiary companies such as Donavia and Rossiya already fly many of these routes.
An earlier version of this story said that Aeroflot had stopped flights on the routes mentioned. In fact, Aeroflot subsidiaries operate flights on many of the routes, and Aeroflot itself has simply relinquished rights that it was not using.
