On Wednesday, a number of historic buildings opened their doors to the Moscow public for International Museum Day. One of them was Pashkov House, which houses the rare books collection of the Russian State Library. The building on Mokhovaya Ulitsa was built between 1784 and 1786 by the architect Vasily Bazhenov. During the construction of the metro, however, its foundation was seriously weakened when a tunnel was excavated beneath it. Now under restoration, Pashkov House is expected to reopen to the public – this time for good – in 2007. Photograph by Dmitry Borko.
