An army of snowmen gathered on the Arbat this week, sculpted by artist Nikolai Polissky and a team of helpers. While Moscow has no shortage of snow, the sculptor used a snow machine to make the human-sized figures because it was too difficult to transport enough snow to the pedestrian street. Around a cubic meter of snow is used for each sculpture, and as of last week there were around 150 of them - the artist doesn't keep an exact count. By the time the show closes on Sunday, there will be as many as 300 snowmen. Photograph by Vladimir Filonov.
