Approximately 30 Turkish citizens have been denied entry into Russia recently, the RBC news agency reported Thursday, citing an anonymous source at the Turkish embassy in Moscow.
Turks who have managed to enter Russia complained to the embassy that security measures for them had been tightened at border crossings.
A Turkish embassy spokesman confirmed that about 30 Turkish citizens have been denied entry and sent back to Turkey, RBC reported.
There has been no official announcement from the Russian authorities regarding changes in border entry rules for Turkish citizens, an embassy spokesman told RBC.
There are currently 39 Turkish nationals currently detained in southern Russia's Krasnodar region, Yuga.ru news portal reported Thursday. They had arrived in Russia to participate in an agricultural exhibition but were accused of violating immigration law as they had no business visas.
One of the detainees told the RBC news agency that border guards had instructed them to register as tourists upon their arrival in Russia.
On Tuesday, a Russian Su-24 fighter-bomber was downed by an air-to-air missile from a Turkish F-16 interceptor near the Turkish-Syrian border. Turkey said the jet had violated its airspace while Russia insisted that the plane was on Syrian territory.
Commenting on the incident, Russian President Vladimir Putin said it would affect relations between the two countries.
