Russian Artist Takes to Apartment Wall to Highlight Country's Social Issues
Arseniy, an artist from the Russian city of Samara, has recently made waves on social media with a series of photographs made against the backdrop of an abandoned five-story building.
The project is called "1m²" and addresses social issues and experiences encountered by normal Russians. The performances include showing a simple factory worker's dinner, dreams about being able to take a vacation to the sea and the difficulties that people with disabilities encounter when living in houses without elevators.

"I wanted to create an image of a citizen from a regular neighborhood, set against a regular carpet," Arseniy told the Moscow Times.

With this series, the artist wanted to draw attention to the problems that people living with disabilities face while moving around the city.

"People do not pay attention to such problems until they happen to them or their loved ones," he explains.

"I took out a mortgage on this apartment-studio that measures 1m². The rate is good and it is only for 20 years."
