Russian Instagram Bot Imagines Elon Musk's Life as a Woman

What do you do in your free time?

Create an Instagram account that transforms Elon Musk into a woman, obviously.

Russia's obsession with the Tesla founder continues to grow with a new project that imagines him as a beautiful Russian woman named Elona Musk.

Each post is generated by a neural network that was trained using machine learning by looking at thousands of real users' Instagram accounts. The bot uses face-replacement technology to impose Musk's face on photos of women and writes its captions based on what it thinks a real Instagram user sounds like.

The captions generated by the neural network are so bizarre that we had to include them. Our favorites are below:

Meet Elona. She loves chilling by the pool in her free time.

"Of all my hobbies, I like problems with self-esteem the most."

"Broke a nail, but everything is fine."

"Girlfriend, one truth: The children in a store are exactly the same (except they have an automatic transmission.)"

"I don’t know who Pushkin, Bulgakov and Asadov are. So, the world is changing for the better!"

Elona on a casual Monday.

A Message from The Moscow Times:

Dear readers,

We are facing unprecedented challenges. Russia's Prosecutor General's Office has designated The Moscow Times as an "undesirable" organization, criminalizing our work and putting our staff at risk of prosecution. This follows our earlier unjust labeling as a "foreign agent."

These actions are direct attempts to silence independent journalism in Russia. The authorities claim our work "discredits the decisions of the Russian leadership." We see things differently: we strive to provide accurate, unbiased reporting on Russia.

We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. But to continue our work, we need your help.

Your support, no matter how small, makes a world of difference. If you can, please support us monthly starting from just $2. It's quick to set up, and every contribution makes a significant impact.

By supporting The Moscow Times, you're defending open, independent journalism in the face of repression. Thank you for standing with us.
