More Than 2,000 March Against Abortion in Moscow

Anton Vergun / TASS

More than 2,000 people from Moscow and the surrounding region marched against abortion in Moscow on Sunday, the Interfax news agency reported.

The demonstration, entitled "The Battle for Life," took place on Moscow's Suvorov Square and was organized by the organizations "For Life," "Forty Times Forty," and "Orthodox Volunteers," and "Women for Life."

At the protest organizers gathered signatures for a petition to ban abortion and defend life from the moment of conception. So far churches throughout Russia have managed to gather approximately 300,000 signatures for the petition.

Earlier Patriarch Kirill of the Orthodox Church had signed the petition, calling for a public discussion about abortion.
