Investigation of Russian Opposition Murder Complete - Lawyer

A man holds a poster of Kremlin critic Boris Nemtsov, who was shot dead on Friday night, during a march to commemorate him in central Moscow, March 1, 2015. The sign reads, "He died for the future of Russia."

The investigation into the murder of Russian opposition leader Boris Nemtsov — shot dead last year — has been completed, the RIA Novosti news agency reported Tuesday, citing the lawyer of one of the defendants.

“I've just received a call from the Investigative Committee and was told that the investigation is complete, we will soon begin to study the case files,” defense lawyer Musa Khadisov was quoted by RIA Novosti as saying.

Earlier this month, the head of Russia's Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin announced that Nemtsov's murder had been solved.

Nemtsov was killed by four shots in the back on Feb. 27, 2015 while walking across the Bolshoi Moskvoretsky Bridge in central Moscow.

Five suspects were arrested, including the alleged murderer Zaur Dadayev. According to the investigation, the crime was masterminded by Ruslan Mukhutdinov, currently on an international wanted list.

Vadim Prokhorov, the lawyer for Nemtsov's family, does not believe that Mukhutdinov could have ordered and masterminded the murder.
