Suspected Serial Child Rapist Detained

A suspected serial child rapist has been detained in Moscow, Russia's Investigative Committee said Sunday.

The suspect, a man in his 50s, is accused of committing at least five sex crimes against girls aged 12 to 15 around the country, including in the Lipetsk and Smolensk regions, the statement said.

Investigators have determined that biological material pertaining to the crimes belonged to the suspect in their custody. The committee added that it is collecting additional evidence to build its case.

Under Russian law, individuals convicted of raping minors can face up to 15 years in prison.
