Moscow Supermarket Security Guard Sought in Fatal Robbery

Police are searching for a supermarket security guard suspected of murdering a female co-worker and robbing the store Tuesday morning in northern Moscow, the TASS news agency reported.

He "came to work, hit the store manager over the head with a heavy object, took a safe containing money and fled," the news agency cited an undisclosed law enforcement source as saying. "The victim died at the scene."

The incident occurred at about 9 a.m. at the Monetka supermarket on Ulitsa 800-Letiya Moskvy, the report said, adding that police know the suspect's identity and are looking for him.

The Investigative Committee released a statement in the afternoon saying the suspect is also believed to have stolen money from a cash register. A criminal case has been opened on charges of theft and murder.
