More than 140 participants of the Seliger youth forum in the Tver region north of Moscow have suffered food poisoning, with 34 taken to a hospital, RIA Novosti reported Monday.
All those hospitalized have already been discharged and will return to Lake Seliger, where the forum takes place, the news agency reported.
Federal Youth Policy Agency head Sergei Pospelov was cited as saying that the people taken ill had eaten food that had been stored outside in hot weather for several hours.
The annual state-run Seliger youth forum was founded in 2005 to foster patriotism among the young. President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev have paid visits to the camp, which has frequently been criticized for its openly pro-government stance.
