Muggers Attack Man to Steal 10 Pairs of Socks

A 38-year-old Muscovite was violently assaulted by two muggers who managed to make off with the victim's cell phone, 3,600 rubles in cash and … 10 pairs of socks.

The incident occurred in Bibirevo late Saturday night, when police responded to a call about a disturbance and discovered two men in the middle of a fight, Interfax reported, citing the police press service.

The victim told police that his 52-year-old opponent had attacked him with the help of one other man and taken his belongings, which for some inexplicable reason included an abundance of socks.

The estimated worth of everything stolen was about 6,000 rubles, police said in comments to Interfax.

The victim was treated for a head wound and injured elbow in a hospital before being released.

A criminal case on robbery charges has been opened over the incident. It was unclear whether the suspect was in police custody.
