The self-appointed prime minister of the Donetsk People's Republic, Alexander Borodai, told journalists Thursday that 33 Russians had died in this week's clashes between Ukrainian security forces and pro-Russian separatists at Donetsk International Airport.
"All victims have been identified," Ria Novosti cited Borodai as saying. "We sent 33 bodies from the morgue back to their relatives today. We are in contact with all families."
Representatives of the so-called Donetsk People's Republic said earlier this week they had lost around 50 fighters in Monday's clashes with government forces over the Donetsk airport.
Oleksandr Lukyanchenko, the Kiev-appointed mayor of Donetsk, said there had been roughly 40 casualties, including two civilians.
