KRASNAYA POLYANA — Russia's Alena Kaufman grabbed her second gold at the Sochi Paralympics on Tuesday, winning the biathlon 10-kilometer standing event.
The 26-year-old Kaufman, who also won the six-kilometer race on Saturday, missed one of her 20 shots as thick fog blanketed the Laura Biathlon and Ski Complex, but was by far the fastest skier.
Three-time Vancouver Paralympic champion Oleksandra Kononova of Ukraine claimed silver, 36.6 seconds off Kaufman's time.
The bronze went to the youngest member of the Russian Paralympic team, Natalia Bratyuk, 16, who finished 30 seconds behind Kononova to claim her first career medal.
It was already the second victory of the day for the host nation after Roman Petushkov claimed his third Sochi gold medal at the 12.5-kilometer sitting biathlon, leading a Russian podium sweep.
Earlier in the day, Germany's Anja Wicker emerged victorious in the women's 10-kilometer sitting biathlon.
