Russian automobile company Sollers is considering hiring workers who are set to be laid off by the AvtoVAZ car plant in Tolyatti, the Samara region, a spokeswoman from Sollers said Monday.
AvtoVAZ, which makes Ladas, announced last month that it will fire 7,500 staff over the course of 2014 and the Far East Development Ministry has asked Sollers' management to see if it can offset the job losses by taking on workers at its Vladivostok plant, RIA Novosti reported.
Though Sollers can't employ 7,500 people from AvtoVAZ, which is headed by former General Motors Co. executive Bo Andersson, the company will consider hiring at least some unemployed staff, spokeswoman Varvara Nasyr said.
Sollers tends to look outside the Primorye region for staff only when it needs a specialist that can't be found locally, she said.
