Dagestani Deputy Head Arrested on Fraud Suspicions

A Moscow court approved the arrest of deputy head of the Dagestani government Magometgusen Nasrutdinov on Tuesday as the official awaits trial on fraud charges.

Investigators suspect Nasrutdinov of illegal privatization of gas distribution networks in the republic of Dagestan in the early 2000s. He was detained at Vnukovo Airport last Sunday upon his arrival from Makhachkala, Kommersant reported.

Following his arrest Nasrutdinov was taken to an Interior Ministry pre-trial detention center in Moscow, where he is currently being held.

Nasrutdinov has reportedly denied the charges brought against him, and refused to answer investigators' questions in connection with the case.
