Wife Confesses to Killing Husband With Crossbow

The wife of a factory owner has confessed to killing her husband by shooting him the the back with a crossbow, a news report said Monday.

The 46-year-old businessman was fixing a gazebo at their home in southern Russia, a law enforcement official said Saturday, adding that the couple fought regularly throughout their 7-year marriage and had gotten into an argument earlier that day.

The man died after being shot in the ribcage at the couple's home in the Volgograd region on June 9, before paramedics could arrive at the scene, investigators said. The wife called emergency services requesting police and an ambulance.

It was earlier considered that the man could have been shot by a sniper.

The widow has written her confession and has been detained, Investigative Committee spokeswoman Nataliya Kunitskaya told RIA-Novosti.

A criminal case has been opened on allegations of illegal acquisition of a weapon as well as murder, punishable by up to 15 years in prison. The widow's name has not been released.
