Christ the Savior Cathedral was consecrated in Moscow 130 years ago today, on June 7, 1883. The original cathedral, which was destroyed during the Soviet era, was commissioned by Emperor Nicholas I and Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture was first performed at the consecration ceremony.
