Siluanov Wants Gasoline Tax Increase

Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said he wanted to increase energy taxes to pay for costly infrastructure upgrades necessary to sustain growth.

Siluanov said Russia needed to find a way to replenish its roads fund after tax measures passed two years ago encouraged drivers to upgrade to cleaner transportation fuels, hitting revenues.

Siluanov said the ministry proposed gradually increasing the tax for the higher grades to bring them on a par with the lower grades fees during next three years.

He also said the mineral extraction tax, one of the main taxes on oil production, could be raised further than previously planned.
