Little Girl Left Home Alone Falls 14 Floors

A 7-year old girl left home alone by her mother is in a coma after falling from a 14th floor apartment building in Krasnoyarsk, investigators said Monday.

The mother left the girl at home on Sunday evening, going out on a visit with a 13-year-old daughter, the regional branch of the Investigative Committee said.

"Around 5 a.m. the girl returned home and couldn't find her younger sister," it said in a statement. "She looked out the open window and saw the girl lying on the awning on the first floor."

The girl, who was wearing street clothes, was rushed to the hospital.

Investigators did not provide information about the whereabouts of the mother but said she had been stripped of her parental rights for a third child, an older son who now lives with relatives. It was not clear why the boy had been taken away from his mother.

Investigators have opened an inquiry into the 7-year-old girl's fall.
