The Federal Security Service prevented 92 terrorism-related crimes this year, FSB head Alexander Bortnikov told reporters on Tuesday.
The FSB also "foiled the activity of several odious leaders organizing terrorist acts," Bortnikov said, according to RIA-Novosti, without providing any details about the crimes the security services had foiled.
Viktor Orlov, deputy head of the National Anti-Terrorist Committee, said earlier that the security services had prevented more than 260 terrorist attacks since the beginning of 2012, RIA-Novosti said.
According to Orlov, the number of registered terrorism-related crimes declined from 779 in 2010 to 365 the following year.
Bortnikov attributed this downward trend to the work of special commissions set up in the North Caucasus that help former militants to return to a peaceful life. He added that security services had detained over 600 militants and their accomplices over the past year.
