Parade Rehearsal Causes Road Closures

Road closures were in place near the Kremlin on Monday morning as thousands took part in a dress rehearsal for an upcoming military parade on Red Square.

Several roads including Ulitsa Varvarka, Bolshoi Moskvoretsky Most and Vasilyevsky Spusk were closed from 7:00 a.m., according to a statement on Moscow's traffic police website.

Parade organizers had scheduled the dress rehearsal for Monday, a nonworking day, to minimize traffic disruption.

The official parade, scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Nov. 7, will mark the 71st anniversary of a similar procession in which Red Army soldiers crossed Red Square on their way to the front during World War II.

War veterans who participated in the 1941 parade will watch from the stands on Wednesday, City Hall said on its website.
