Nov. 7 Parade to Snarl Traffic

Moscow drivers can expect worse traffic jams than usual Wednesday when downtown streets are closed for a World War II parade on Red Square.

The parade, a reenactment of a Nov. 7, 1941, march by Red Army troops headed to the front, will start at 10 a.m., but the street closures will begin at 7 a.m. and remain closed until the events end, Interfax reported, citing city traffic police.

The street closures include Ulitsa Varvarka, the Bolshoi Moskvoretsky Bridge and Vasilyevsky Spusk.

Since the parade might have a significant impact on road traffic, the police are urging drivers to seek alternate routes to avoid delays.

A total of 57 veterans who took part on the parade 71 years ago remain alive in Moscow, and 36 of them will watch Wednesday's parade from the stands.
