After a meeting with President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said the West Bank town of Bethlehem would rename a street in honor of the Russian leader, Radio Liberty reported.
Abbas made the announcement as the two attended the opening ceremony of a cultural and educational center that Russia built and will fund.
Bethlehem is located on the west bank of the river Jordan and is one of the main centers of Christian pilgrimage. According to tradition, Bethlehem was the birth place of Jesus Christ.
This will not be the first Palestinian street named after a Russian leader. In January, a street in Jericho was named after Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
