NTV Censors Report

NTV television took off the air a report about police kidnapping innocent people in Chechnya, but not before the video was broadcasted in the country's eastern time zones, Gazeta.ru said Monday.

The video, which was aired on Sunday evening primetime east of the Urals, cites rights activists who reported a story of a Chechen man mistaken for a militant and detained in 2009. The story claimed that local law enforcement agencies obstructed the investigation of the case.

NTV confirmed taking the report off the air, but it has since surfaced on YouTube. A spokesman for the channel said it needed "more work," but failed to elaborate, Gazeta.ru said.
