Federal Communications Agency chief Valery Bugayenko, a key government official who oversaw the development of electronic communications and information technology, died early Wednesday, his agency said on its web site.
Bugayenko, 60, had headed the agency since 2007 and joined the federal government after serving in the armed forces from 1968 to 1999, retiring with the rank of lieutenant general. It was not immediately clear who would replace him.
RIA-Novosti, citing an unidentified official in the Communications and Press Ministry, said Bugayenko died of heart failure.
