Federal Agency Liquidated

President Dmitry Medvedev has liquidated the Federal Service for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, whose responsibilities will now be overtaken by the Culture Ministry, the Kremlin said on its web site Wednesday.

The decree was signed last week, but not made public before, the report said.

Culture Minister Alexander Avdeyev said earlier that the agency's orders are often ignored by prosecutors and regional authorities.
