President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin should tarry no more in making a public decision about which of them will run in next year’s presidential elections, the head of Medvedev’s think tank said.
The ruling tandem has repeatedly pledged not to compete in the election but refused to say who might run.
The uncertainty is “making the elite nervous,” Igor Yurgens, head of the Institute for Contemporary Development, told Komsomolskaya Pravda in an interview published Monday.
“The mantra ‘We will assemble in time, talk it over and make a decision in the interests of the Russian people’ is not acceptable anymore,” Yurgens said.
The tandem’s decision “guarantees that we will not tear the Russian Federation apart. But let’s decide sooner,” he said.
