Up to 100 people were detained late Tuesday on Moscow’s Manezh Square where nationalists planned to stage an unsanctioned rally, Interfax reported.
Police spokesman Viktor Biryukov said at least 10 people were held, RIA-Novosti reported, but an unidentified law enforcement source told Interfax the actual figure was up to 10 times more. Among the detained were nationalist leaders Dmitry Dyomushkin, Alexei Mikhailov and Vladimir Tor.
No incidents were reported. Earlier reports said 35 buses were required to carry all policemen deployed to cordon the area.
About 5,000 people rioted on Manezh Square in December during an unsanctioned rally to protest the alleged lax treatment of North Caucasus natives suspected of killing a football fan in a street brawl.
