Footballer Swears on Air

A Bulgarian footballer playing for the Premier League’s Anzhi Makhachkala team will be fined an unspecified sum for using an expletive when commenting on his club’s performance on national television, his coach said.

Todor Timonov made the comment about his team’s chances for NTV television during a half-time break in Saturday’s game with Tomsk’s Tom, won 1-0 by Anzhi, the Sovietsky Sport daily reported Sunday. A video of the interview is available online.

Anzhi’s coach, Gadzhi Gadzhiyev, said Timonov is still learning the Russian language and was probably not aware of the word’s obscene meaning. He said he himself does not use obscene words at work and promised that none of his players will swear again.
