Federation Council Senator Lyudmila Narusova is now representing the Bryansk region, not the Tuva republic, in the upper chamber, which approved the switch Wednesday, Interfax reported, adding that her term in Tuva expires this month.
Television host Alexei Pimanov will replace Narusova — the widow of former St. Petersburg Mayor Anatoly Sobchak, who was once the boss of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin — as the senator for Tuva, the Tuva branch of United Russia said.
Pimanov ran for the Tuva regional legislature on the United Russia ticket during last Sunday’s elections but will take a seat in the body, Interfax said. His Federation Council nomination, which was supported by Tuva leader Sholban Kara-ool, has to be approved by the regional legislature, which has not set a date for the vote.
