AMC Fires Shot In Clinic Battle

Lawyers for the American Medical Center said Thursday they had filed a legal motion asking a U.S. judge to declare the owners of the recently opened U.S. Global Health clinic in contempt of a court order.

The motion, part of a legal battle between the two Moscow health centers, was prompted by an Oct. 5 cocktail party which U.S. Global Health held to celebrate its grand opening and woo new clients, said Garret Rasmussen, a Washington lawyer representing AMC.

AMC contends that some of their clients were invited to the cocktail party, a violation of a court injunction that prohibits U.S. Global Health from soliciting certain AMC customers.

In July, a North Carolina judge issued the injunction after finding there was sufficient evidence that U.S. Global Health had obtained an AMC client list under false pretenses.

Dr. Bruce Barron of U.S. Global Health has denied that the clinic's employees knowingly solicited any forbidden clients.

A Message from The Moscow Times:

Dear readers,

We are facing unprecedented challenges. Russia's Prosecutor General's Office has designated The Moscow Times as an "undesirable" organization, criminalizing our work and putting our staff at risk of prosecution. This follows our earlier unjust labeling as a "foreign agent."

These actions are direct attempts to silence independent journalism in Russia. The authorities claim our work "discredits the decisions of the Russian leadership." We see things differently: we strive to provide accurate, unbiased reporting on Russia.

We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. But to continue our work, we need your help.

Your support, no matter how small, makes a world of difference. If you can, please support us monthly starting from just $2. It's quick to set up, and every contribution makes a significant impact.

By supporting The Moscow Times, you're defending open, independent journalism in the face of repression. Thank you for standing with us.
